Barak Valley Engineering College (BVEC) is a state governmentengineering college located inKarimganj, Assam.[2][3][4] It was established on 14 August 2017 by Assam Government atKarimganj district, Assam.[5][6][7][8] It is affiliated toAssam Science and Technology University. On 2 March 2011, Chief MinisterTarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the Barak Valley Engineering College inKarimganj district, which was proposed by the Assam Government officially.[9]

The college started to offerB.Tech degree inComputer Science and Engineering andElectronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the academic year 2017–18.It is the fifth state government engineering college of Assam and first inBarak Valley.[10]

History

In 2009, theGovernment of Assam took the first move to set up the college. In 2017, the government started its full-fledged operation of the college under the influence of Directorate of Technical Education(DTE), Assam.[11] The college is fully funded by the Government.[12]

The college is affiliated toAssam Science and Technology University.[13] All the undergraduate coursesBachelor of Technology is approved by theAll India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),[14]New Delhi,Govt of India.[15]

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in April, 2017.The annual intake capacity is 60 students.The department has a computer centre.

  • Students are taken in for undergraduate (B.Tech) courses throughAssam Combined Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted byASTU.
  • Lateral entry into the undergraduate (B.Tech) courses is done through the Joint Lateral Entrance Examination (JLEE) conducted byASTU.

There are two hostels on the campus, one for boys and one for girls, with a combined capacity of 80 boarders.[18]
