Baoni State was aJagir and laterprincely state inIndia during theMaratha Confederacy andBritish Raj. It was a smallsanad state, the onlyMuslim-ruled one inBundelkhand Agency. Its ruler was granted the right to an 11-gun salute. The Baoni royal family claim to be descendants of theAsaf Jahi dynasty ofHyderabad, tracing its origins toAbu Bakr, the first Islamic caliph.[3]

Baoni was located in theBetwa-Yamunadoab,Uttar Pradesh, withKadaura as its seat of government. The state was bounded on the north by the district ofCawnpore, in the west by the district ofJalaun and to the south and east by the district ofHamirpur of theUnited Provinces —as well as a little part in the south-east byBeri State.[4] Baoni had a population of 19,780 inhabitants in 1901, of whom 87% wereHindu and 12% Muslim.[4]

Descendants and Current Rulers

Theprincely state is no longer existent due to its annexation byIndia during thepartition. Due to this, there are no current rulers of the state and the descendants of the royal family remain scattered. There is a known descendant ofNawab Syed Mohammed Mushtaq Al Hassan Khan Bahadur, through his granddaughter, Sikandar Begum and her daughter namedSajaadi Begum who was namedMuhammad Hamid Khan. He fled toPakistan during the partition and has many descendants living inPakistan andCanada. His paternal line being from him to his sonHammad Khan and his grandsonAyaan Khan.
