Baniapukur Ballygung Assembly constituency was aLegislative Assembly constituency ofKolkata district in theIndianstate ofWest Bengal.
Beniapukur andBallygunge were areas added to theCalcutta Corporation in 1889.[1] Baniapukur Ballygung was the sole two-member assembly seat in Calcutta.[2] One seat was reserved forScheduled Castes, the other seat was unreserved.[2]
Inindependent India's first election in 1951, Jogesh Chandra Gupta and Pulin Behari Khatic, both ofIndian National Congress, won.[3] Amongst the independent candidates in the fray wereJogendra Nath Mandal, a former Minister ofPakistan, and Dr.A.M.O. Ghani.[3][4]
