Mateo Baltasar Barcia Fernández (born 19 February 2001) is a Uruguayanfootballer who plays asmidfielder forBoston River, on loan from Argentine clubIndependiente.
Born inPando, Barcia was aRentistas youth graduate. He made his first team – andUruguayan Primera División – debut on 6 June 2021, starting in a 2–0 home loss toDeportivo Maldonado.[1]
Barcia scored his first professional goal on 5 July 2021, netting the winner in a 1–0 away success overCerrito.[2] He was regularly used during the 2022 season, but wasunable to avoid team relegation.
On 24 January 2023, Barcia signed a four-year contract withArgentine Primera División sideIndependiente, after the club paidUS$ 500,000 for 50% of his economic rights.[3]
