Balma (French pronunciation:[balma];Occitan:Balmar) is acommune in theHaute-Garonnedepartment in southwesternFrance. It is east ofToulouse.

The name of the town comes from the oldProvençal word meaning "cave" or "grotto".

History

Balma was established in 1279 as afief of thebishopric of Toulouse.[citation needed]
