Baldwin was aBenedictineabbot and a follower ofSt. Bernard of Clairvaux. Baldwin, anItalian by birth, entered theClairvaux Monastery inFrance. Later in life Baldwin was assigned toItaly as abbot of San Pastore, nearRieti. There he remained until his death in 1140. He is patron saint ofRieti.[1]
