In the Behrampore seat, the by-election was held due to the death of the sittingRSP-MPNani Bhattacharya on 11 October 1993. The by-election was held on 12 March 1994. Pramothes Mukherjee ofRSP defeated Siddhartha Shankar Ray ofCongress.
