Babacar was a short-livedrocksupergroup formed in England, featuring former members ofShelleyan Orphan,the Cure, andPresence.[1] The group released aself-titled album in 1998.[2]

History

Before forming Babacar, vocalistCaroline Crawley was a member ofShelleyan Orphan until their breakup in 1993.[1][3] Several other members had associations withThe Cure. DrummerBoris Williams (longtime partner of Crawley) was the Cure's drummer until 1994.[4] Bassist Roberto Soave had occasionally filled in for Cure bassistSimon Gallup.[5] Soave and guitaristRob Steen had previously been members ofPresence which had been founded by another former member of the Cure,Lol Tolhurst.[6] Soave and Williams had also collaborated with Shelleyan Orphan.[5]

The band released theirself-titled debut album in 1998. The album included a guest appearance by another former Cure member,Porl Thompson.[7] Another member of Shelleyan Orphan, guitarist Jemaur Tayle, later joined the band but had not played on the album.[7] The band dissolved in 2000.[8]
