BRM Government Law College is a governmentlaw school situated at L. N. Bezbaruah Road, Panjabari inGuwahati in theIndian state ofAssam. It offers 5-year integrated B.A.LL.B. andLL.M. course affiliated toGauhati University.[1] This college is recognised by theBar Council of India (BCI),New Delhi.[2]
BRM Government Law College offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in law.[citation needed] The undergraduate course offered is a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program, which is a three-year full-time course.[citation needed]
The college also offers a five-year integrated course, which is a combination of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and LLB degree.[citation needed] The postgraduate course offered is a Master of Laws (LLM) program, which is a two-year full-time course.[citation needed]
BRM Government Law College was established in 1914. Manik Chandra Baruah proposed toBritish Government in 1903 to establish a law college in Assam. It is the premiere institution for legal studies inNortheast India which was initially named Earle Law College after SirArchdale Earle, thenChief Commissioner of Assam inBritish India. It was later renamed forBishnuram Medhi, a freedom fighter and Indian politician. Writer and scholarJnanadabhiram Barua was the first principal of this college.[3] From 1914 to 1947, the college was affiliated with theCalcutta University. In 1948, it fell under the jurisdiction of Gauhati University.[4]
The college follows the course structure prescribed by the Gauhati University and it may be procured from the office.
An applicant who has successfully completed Senior Secondary School (+2) course or equivalent from a recognised University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognised by the Union or by the State Government from a foreign country recognised by the Government of that country with at least 45% ( 40% for SC, ST and OBC applicants) in aggregate may apply for and be admitted into the program to obtain the integrated degree in law with B.A. as the first degree.
An applicant who has graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent national institution recognised as a Deemed to be University or foreign university recognised as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, with at least 45% ( 40% for SC, ST and OBC applicants), may apply for a three year degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.B. degree on successful completion of regular program.
An applicant who has a degree in law from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent National Institution recognised as a Deemed to be University or foreign university recognised as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declareequivalence, with at least 50% (45% for SC, ST and OBC applicants), may apply for a two years master degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.M. degree on successful completion of regular program.
