Bölscheøya (Svalbard)

Bölscheøya (English:Bölsche Island) is an island southwest ofSvarthuken, the southeastern point ofEdgeøya,Norway. It is part ofThousand Islands. The island was named in 1868 by theGerman geographerAugust Petermann (1822–78) after theGerman journalistCarl Bölsche, father of theGerman writer and zoologistWilhelm Bölsche (1843–93). The remains of awhaling station (probablyDutch) from the 17th century can be found on the island.
