Ayagoz orAyakoz (Kazakh:Аягөз,Aiagöz), formerlySergiopol (Russian:Сергиополь), is a city of regional significance inKazakhstan, the administrative centre ofAyagoz district ofAbai Region. Population: 37,537 (2009 census results);[1]38,470 (1999 census results).[1]
It is located at the southeastern end of theChingiztau range, on the banks of the riverAyagöz.[2][3]
The town was incorporated in 1939 under the authority of theUSSR.
In 1991 it became an administrative center of Ayagoz District.
Ayagoz has a cold semi-arid climate (Bsk) in theKöppen climate classification.
