Axelia is anextinctgenus ofprehistoriclobe-finned fish, which belonged to thefamily ofCoelacanthidae. It lived during the Smithian (earlyOlenekian)age of theEarly Triassicepoch in what is now Spitsbergen,Svalbard.[1][2] Fossils were found in the "Fish Niveau" of the Lusitaniadalen Member of theVikinghøgda Formation.
Erik Stensiö named the genus after his brother Axel Andersson.[2]
