TheAviv String Quartet is amusical quartet that was founded inIsrael in 1997.[1] Among the quartet's various awards are theDaimlerChrysler Grand Prize at the 3rdMelbourne International Chamber Music Competition and top prizes at the Bordeaux and Schubert Competitions.[2] The Aviv Quartet has recorded 3 discs of Shostakovich on Dalia Classics and 2 Naxos discs ofHoffmeister andSchulhoff.[2] It completed the Shostakovich cycle at the 2007Verbier Festival, debuts at theZurich Tonhalle andBrussels Palais des Beaux–Arts and returns visits toWigmore Hall.[3] The quartet is renowned for its nuanced interpretations.[4]
Brandon Garbot, fromPortland,OR who studied in theCurtis Institute of Music together withIda Kavafian andArnold Steinhardt was recently appointed as second violinist.[5]
