TheAutopista AP-8 is atollautopista in the north ofSpain, crossing theBasque Country from east to west. It is known as theAutopista del Cantábrico (Spanish for 'Motorway of theCantabrian',Basque:Kantauriko autobidea) and connects the French border withBilbao viaSan Sebastián,Zarautz,Eibar andDurango. At Bilbao the AP-8 continues as the toll-freeAutovía A-8, which runs along the Spanish northern coast toGijón and eventually the region ofGalicia.

The first section of the AP-8 opened in 1971 betweenAmorebieta andBasauri.^[3] It was finished in 1976, with the opening of the international connection to theA63 autoroute in France.^[4] Additionally, the new southernring road of Bilbao, designated as AP-8^[5] and commonly known as theSupersur [es], opened in 2011.^[6]
