Aussevielle (French pronunciation:[osvjɛl];Occitan:Aussavièla) is acommune in thePyrénées-Atlantiquesdepartment in theNouvelle-Aquitaine region of south-westernFrance.

Geography

Aussevielle is located some 14 km north-west ofPau and 6 km north-west ofLescar. Access to the commune is by the D633 road fromBeyrie-en-Béarn in the north-east which passes through most of the length of the commune and the village before it continues south to join the D817 nearSiros. The D817 fromDenguin passes through the south of the commune.European route E80 passes through the north of the commune but provides no access to the commune with the nearest exit being exit 9.1 to the east. Residential areas cover some 20% of the area with the rest farmland.[3]

The Gave de Malapet flows through the north of the commune towards the north-west. TheOusse des Bois flows through the south of the commune westwards to join theGave de Pau south-west of the commune.[3]

The commune name inbéarnais isAussavièla.Michel Grosclaude indicated that the name probably comes from the name of theOusse which rises in the commune with the Occitanvièla ("town") giving "Town of Ousse".[5]

Paul Raymond noted on page 17 of his 1863 dictionary that in 1385 Aussevielle had 10fires and depended on thebailiwick ofPau[6] then in 1654 reverted to theBarony of Denguin byletters patent fromLouis XIV.[13]
