Augustusburg (German pronunciation:[aʊˈɡʊstʊsbʊɐ̯k]) is a town in the district ofMittelsachsen, inSaxony, Germany. It is situated 12 km east ofChemnitz. Augustusburg is known for itsJagdschloss, thehunting lodge of the same name.

The town includes theortsteil or town quarters of:

Afunicular railway, theAugustusburg Cable Railway, connects Erdmannsdorf-Augustusburg station, in the village ofErdmannsdorf and on theZschopau Valley Railway, with the town.[3]

Augustusburg is located in theOre Mountains (Erzgebirge), approx. 15 km east ofChemnitz, 5 km south east ofFlöha, 20 km south west ofFreiberg and 9 km north ofZschopau in the district ofMittelsachsen.

Situation

Augustusburg is situated on a ridge between the valleysZschopau and theFlöha rivers. The town is primarily surrounded by forests. The highest point is the Schellenberg, at 516 m on which the castle is found. The lowest point is the Zschopautal at about 300 m.
