August Kluckhohn

August Kluckhohn (6 July 1832 – 19 May 1893) was a Germanhistorian, born atBavenhausen inLippe.

He studied at theUniversity of Heidelberg as a pupil ofLudwig Häusser, and at theUniversity of Göttingen, where he was influenced byGeorg Waitz. In 1858 he went toMunich to become editor of the "critical division" ofSybel'sHistorische Zeitschrift. He became an instructor in history at theUniversity of Munich in 1860, five years later being promoted to associate professor. In 1869, he was appointed a fullprofessor of history at thePolytechnic School in Munich, and in 1883 he returned toGöttingen as a successor to historianReinhold Pauli.[1]
