TheAudi Avantissimo was aconcept car made by theGerman automobile manufacturerAudi. The car debuted at the2001 Frankfurt Motor Show and also appeared at the2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Audi planned the car to be luxurious and distinguished, but also very fast. Many of its styling cues are visible on the 2002Audi A8.[1][2]
The Avantissimo had a 4.2-litre V8 engine equipped with twinturbochargers. This engine developed about 430 PS (316 kW; 424 hp) and 600 lb⋅ft (813 N⋅m) of torque. The car had a six-speedautomatic transmission andquattro permanentfour-wheel drive. It also featured anelectrochromic roof.[1][2]
This concept introduced much of the technology later available on the series production A8 D3, includingMulti Media Interface, six-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles, a V8biturbo engine (similar to the C5 RS6),self-levellingadaptive air suspension withcontinuously controlled damping, electric park brake,bi-xenon headlights with staticAdaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) curve headlights, dashboard, and driver identification systems withfingerprint scanner.[2]
