Atsushi Ohkubo (Japanese:大久保 篤,Hepburn:Ōkubo Atsushi, born September 20, 1979), is a Japanesemanga artist known for his work on themanga seriesSoul Eater andFire Force, both of which have been adapted intoanime television series. Ohkubo worked as an assistant underRando Ayamine,[1] on the manga seriesGetBackers. He also created some artworks for the video game TCGLord of Vermilion, as well as some character designs inBravely Default andBravely Second: End Layer.

Biography

Ohkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he metRando Ayamine, the artist ofGetBackers, he became Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition atSquare Enix'sGangan magazine with his first manga seriesB. Ichi and it was published in four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he createdSoul Eater, still forGangan, which brought him worldwide success.[2] After that, he explored a little bit more ofSoul Eater's world inSoul Eater Not!, a side-story to the main series that ended in 5 volumes. In 2015, he started working onFire Force, published inWeekly Shōnen Magazine, making it the first weekly manga Ohkubo has done.[3] In May 2020, Ohkubo announced thatFire Force would be his final manga.[4] Ohkubo served as character designer for the 2023 anime seriesKamiErabi God.app.[5]
