Athletics South Africa is the national governing body for the sport of athletics (includingtrack and field, cross country, road running andracewalking) in South Africa, recognised by theIAAF,[3] and also a member ofConfederation of African Athletics.[4] The association is based inJohannesburg.
The organisation reports to theSouth African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC). In 2011, SASCOC sacked the head of Athletics South Africa, Leonard Chuene, for financial mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, tax evasion, and conducting asex verification tests onCaster Semenya without her consent.[5][6][7] Thereafter, Athletics South Africa has been a key supporter in taking Semenya's case to theCourt of Arbitration and the financial costs of this action prevented it from hosting theAfrican Southern Region Athletics Championships in 2019.[8]
