Atheel al-Nujaifi (Arabic:أثيل النجيفي;Turkish:Esil Nuceyfi; born 1958) is anIraqi politician who was the Governor ofNineveh Governorate from April 2009 until May 2015.[1][2]
Nujaifi was born into aMawsili family in 1958. He is a brother of theVice-President of Iraq,Osama al-Nujaifi.[3] His ancestors were closely aligned with theOttoman rulers of Mosul, resulting in them receiving huge grants of land in theal-Hamdaniya district. Nujaifi has degrees in engineering and law from theUniversity of Mosul.[citation needed]
