Asteropeia is a genus offlowering plants. The genus contains 8 knownspecies ofshrubs and smalltrees, allendemic toMadagascar. It is the sole genus in familyAsteropeiaceae. Members of the family are evergreen trees or shrubs.

Members of the family were separated from theTheaceae based on wood anatomy by theAPG system, of 1998, and assigned to the orderCaryophyllales in the cladecore eudicots. The family consists of a single genus,Asteropeia, native toMadagascar.

According to theAP-Website it forms a clade together with the familyPhysenaceae (also of Madagascar).
