Thearyl-hydrocarbon receptor repressor also known asAHRR is a humangene.[1]

Function

[edit]

Dioxins and dioxin-like compounds areteratogens that exert their effects through thearyl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) in conjunction with thereceptor's binding partner, aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT). Theprotein encoded by this gene repressessignal transduction by the AhR by competing with the arylhydrocarbon receptor for binding to the ARNT.[2] Expression of therepressor is stimulated by the receptor/translocatorheterodimer, thereby regulating receptor function through anegative feedback mechanism. In addition, the encoded protein can bind tonuclear factor-kappa B.

The AhRR gene may act as a tumor suppressor.[3][4]

Tissue distribution

[edit]

The expression of AhRR is high in testis, lung, ovary, spleen and pancreas in adults, whereas expression is low in all tissues in fetuses.[5]
