Arvydas Juozaitis (born 18 April 1956 inVilnius) is aLithuanian writer, philosopher, politician, cultural worker and formerswimmer who won a bronze medal in the 100 meterbreaststroke at the1976 Summer Olympics.[1] In 1988, he was a member of theSąjūdis Initiative Group. He was registered as a candidate for2019 Lithuanian presidential election.
Juozaitis is opposed toEuropean integration and proposes a "Europe of nations", but supportsNATO. He opposesdual citizenship.[2] Answering questions on important political topics sent to presidential candidates by the program "Mano Balsas" (Lithuanian:My Voice), organized by theVilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Juozaitis assumesinterventionist positions on the economy, in favor ofprogressive taxation andpublicly funded healthcare, but also described homosexuality as a "social experiment" and a "fad".[3]
Juozaitis supports strengthening Lithuania's ties withLatvia and teaching theLatvian language in Lithuanian schools,[4] and formation of a Lithuanian-Latvianconfederation.[5] He also supported a Lithuanian partnership with theLaw and Justice government in Poland against the European Union.[2]
