BaronArthur de Rothschild (28 March 1851[1] – 10 December 1903[2]) was part of the French branch of the prominentRothschild family. He was the son ofNathaniel de Rothschild andCharlotte de Rothschild (née de Rothschild). Being born in France to British parents he was an English citizen but obtained French nationality in 1872.[3] He was a prominentphilatelist and published a book on the subject.[4][5][6] He also collected rare tapestries[7] He was also interested in yachting[8] and provided prize money for theAmerica's Cup.[9][10] He died of heart failure in his armchair in Monte Carlo at the age of 53.[11][12]After his death important paintings were given to theLouvre and a large collection of old rings to theMusée de Cluny.[13][14]
