Arno Arthur Wachmann (8 March 1902 – 24 July 1990) was a Germanastronomer and discoverer ofcomets andminor planets, who worked for many years at theBergedorf Observatory in Hamburg.[2][3]

WithArnold Schwassmann he co-discovered theperiodic comets29P/Schwassmann–Wachmann,31P/Schwassmann–Wachmann and73P/Schwassmann–Wachmann. TheMinor Planet Center credits him with the discovery of 3asteroids during 1938–1939.[1] He also discovered supernovaSN 1938B.

The inner main-belt asteroid1704 Wachmann was named in his honor (M.P.C. 3933).[3]
