Arneae orArneai (Ancient Greek:Ἀρνεαί) was a small city ofancient Lycia mentioned by Capito in hisIsaurica.[1] It is located nearErnes,[2] in the interior of Lycia where archaeological remains have been found.
Since it was in theRoman province of Lycia, thebishopric of Arneae was asuffragan of themetropolitan see ofMyra, the province's capital. No name of any of itsbishops is identified inLe Quien'sOriens christianus in quatuor Patriarchatus digestus. However, the see appears in ninth place among the suffragans of Arneae[clarification needed] in theNotitiae Episcopatuum of Pseudo-Epiphanius, composed underByzantine EmperorHeraclius in about 640.[3]
No longer a residential bishopric, Arneae is today listed by theCatholic Church as atitular see.[4]
