Ariobarzanes (Greek:Ἀριoβαρζάνης; reigned 266 BC – c. 250 BC) was thesecond king ofPontus, succeeding his fatherMithridates I Ctistes in 266 BC. He died in an uncertain date between 258 and 240 BC. He obtained possession of the city ofAmastris inPaphlagonia, which was surrendered to him.[1] Ariobarzanes and his father sought the assistance of theGauls, who had come intoAsia Minor twelve years before the death of Mithridates, to expel theEgyptians sent byPtolemy II Philadelphus.[2] Ariobarzanes was succeeded byMithridates II.
