King of Sparta
InGreek mythology,King Argalus (Ancient Greek: Ἄργαλος) was a leader of theLacedaemonidGreeks from the age of legend, now treated as being theBronze Age inGreece.
Argalus was the eldest son and heir of KingAmyklas ofSparta,[1] possibly by his wife,Diomede, daughter ofLapithes.[2] Through this parentage, he was considered to be the brother ofKing Cynortes (his successor),[3]Hyacinthus,[4]Polyboea,[5]Laodamia[6] (orLeanira[7]),Harpalus,[8]Hegesandre,[9] and in other versions, ofDaphne.[10] Argalus was also said to be the father of KingOebalus.[11] In 1320 BC, he foundedAcriae.[12]
