Ardre (Swedish pronunciation:[ˈɑ̂ːɖrɛ])[3] is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland.[4] It comprises the same area as theadministrative Ardre District, established on 1 January 2016.[5] It is most noted for theVikingArdre image stones found under the floor boards of theArdre Church.[6]
Ardre is situated on the central east coast of Gotland,[7] with the island's oldest seaside resortLjugarn as the mainlocality in the socken.[8][9] Themedieval Ardre Church is located in Ardre.[10] As of 2019[update], Ardre Church belongs to Gardeparish, along with the churches inGarde,Etelhem,Alskog andLye.[11][12]
