Ardino (Bulgarian:Ардино, formerlyTurkish:Eğridere)is a town in southernBulgaria, in theRhodope Mountains. It is located inKardzhali Province and it is also close toSmolyan.
It is famous for its textile industry. It has a machine-building factory and a tobacco manufacturing industry. Tourist attractions include theBelite Brezi, the Eagle rocks, and theDyavolski most (Devil's bridge).
Under Ottoman rule, Ardino, then known in Turkish as Eğridere, was akaza centre in theSanjak of Gümülcine in theAdrianople Vilayet before theBalkan Wars.[1] Ardino received its name in 1934[2] and was declared as a town in 1960.[3] Ardino is the birthplace ofSabahattin Ali, Turkish novelist, poet and journalist.
