Güler began his senior career with the Turkish clubFenerbahçe in 2021, where he won theTurkish Cup in 2023. In 2023, Güler signed with Real Madrid. In his inaugural season with the Spanish giants, he won theLa Liga and theUEFA Champions League.
At the international level, Güler made his senior debut for Turkey in 2022. He was a member of the squad forUEFA Euro 2024 and played a key role in the team's run to the quarter-finals.[8][9]
Güler started his youth career atAnkara-based clubGençlerbirliği, in 2014.[10] Arda Güler was discovered by Turkish powerhouseFenerbahçe on 20 February 2019, when he was only 13 years old, and was included in the youth squad. Güler, who has played in all of theFenerbahçe youth teams including U-15, U-16 and U-19, first started playing for theFenerbahçe U-15 team in the 2018-19 season, and was taken to the U-16 team in 2020 and the U19 team in 2021. He contributed 7 goals and 4 assists in 18 matches for theFenerbahçe U-19 team. He made 3 goals and 1 assist in the U-19 Play-Off quarterfinal match, and thus attracted attention as the top scorer in that season's Play-Off.
In July 2021, Güler began waiting for his place in theFenerbahçe’s first team.[11][10]
Güler signed a two-and-a-half-year-long professional contract withFenerbahçe on 13 January 2021.[12] He was considered as a wonderkid and seen as a big prospect for the future.[13]
In March 2022, Güler became Fenerbahçe's youngest goalscorer in Süper Lig history, having just turned 17 three weeks earlier. By May 2022, Güler had scored 3 goals and delivered 3 assists in just 255 minutes of playing time. After an impressive start to his career, it was reported that big European clubs likeArsenal,Liverpool,Bayern Munich,Borussia Dortmund,Barcelona andParis Saint-Germain showed their interest in signing him.[16][17] On 17 March 2022, Fenerbahçe announced that they had signed a three-year contract with him.[18]
On 6 July 2023,La Liga clubReal Madrid announced the signing of Güler to a six-year contract lasting until June 2029.[24][25] The deal was sealed by triggering his release clause with an initial payment of €20 million, which surpassed the €17.5 million clause from his former contract with Fenerbahçe.[26][27] Güler requested Real Madrid to pay beyond his release clause to raise funds for his former club.[28]
Following multiple injuries in late 2023, Güler debuted for Real Madrid in theCopa del Rey match againstArandina on 6 January 2024,[29] contributing to the team's 3–1 win.[30][31]
On 14 January, Güler won his first trophy with Real Madrid in theSupercopa de España final, where Real Madrid triumphed overBarcelona with a score of 4–1.[32][33] He made his La Liga debut againstLas Palmas on 27 January, coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute, replacingRodrygo.[34][35] On 10 March, he scored his first league goal for Real Madrid, dribbling pastCelta goalkeeperVicente Guaita in the fourth minute of stoppage time, five minutes after being substituted on, to seal a 4–0 league victory over Celta Vigo.[36][37] On 26 April, Güler marked his first La Liga start with a goal, giving his team a 1–0 win againstReal Sociedad atReale Arena.[38][39] On 19 May, he scored a brace againstVillarreal in a 4–4 draw, becoming the fastest player in Real Madrid's history to score six La Liga goals in just 330 minutes of playing time.[40][41] Although he didn't play in the competition, he became the first Turkish player to win theUEFA Champions League when his club clinched their 15th title with a 2–0 win overBorussia Dortmund in thefinal.[42]
Güler made his Champions League debut as a substitute in the opening match of theleague phase, which ended in a 3–1 victory overStuttgart on 17 September 2024.[43] Later that year, he scored his first goal of the season in a 3–0 away win overGirona inLa Liga on 7 December.[44] After being used mainly inCopa del Rey matches and seeing limited time in league games for most part of the season, Güler was given rare back-to-back league starts on 23 April 2025 when he scored the winner and was nominated player of the match in a 1–0 win overGetafe, and on 4 May when he registered a goal and an assist in a 3–2 victory over Celta Vigo.[45][46]
FollowingXabi Alonso’s appointment as Real Madrid head coach, Güler began featuring more regularly in the starting lineup, primarily in a midfield role. On August 30, 2025, he netted his first goal of the season in a 2–1 La Liga win overMallorca, putting in a man-of-the-match performance.[47][48]
Throughout August and September, Güler began to play an increasingly important role in Real Madrid’s squad, earning consistent starts. His performances culminated in being named the LaLiga U23 Player of the Month for September, having scored two goals and provided two assists during that period.[49]
Güler is a Turkish youth international, having played up to theTurkey U21s. He made his senior international debut forTurkey on 19 November 2022, in their 2–1 friendly win againstCzech Republic. He scored his first goal againstWales inEuro 2024 qualifiers on 19 June 2023.[50]
Güler was named in Turkey's 26-man squad forUEFA Euro 2024.[51] On 18 June 2024, he was awarded Player of the Match, as he scored in Turkey's 3–1 opening fixture win overGeorgia, becoming the first teenager to score on hisEuropean Championship debut sinceCristiano Ronaldo in2004.[52] With his goal, he also became the fifth-youngest goalscorer in the tournament's history and the youngest debutant to find the net, aged 19 years and 114 days, breaking Cristiano Ronaldo's previous record.[53][54]
On 3 July, Güler provided an assist as Turkey defeatedAustria 2–1 in the round of 16 and progressed into the quarter-finals. In doing so, he became only the third teenager in history to score and assist in the same Euros, following Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.[55]
Considered to be one of the best young footballers in the world,[4][5][6][7] Güler is a left-footedattacking midfielder who can also play as awinger, prominently on the right flank. A very precocious player, he stands out for his ability to deal with complex situations in tight spaces. A fineplaymaker, Güler also boasts impressive dribbling skill, vision, creativity, above-average passing skills and notable technical ability from set-pieces.[56]
