Arcy-sur-Cure (French pronunciation:[aʁsisyʁkyʁ], literallyArcy onCure) is acommune in theYonnedepartment inBourgogne-Franche-Comté in north-centralFrance.
Thecaves of Arcy-sur-Cure, just south of the commune, hold the second-oldest cave paintings known, after those ofChauvet Cave.[3] Archeological remains at theGrotte du Renne were taken to provide evidence thatNeanderthals had modern human behavior, but this is now doubted.[4][5]
