Arcadia is a suburb inPretoria,South Africa, that is known for its historical buildings,embassies and hotels. TheUnion Buildings[2] and thepresident's residence are also situated here.
The land on which the suburb lies had the name originally and so it remained after the land was surveyed in 1857/58 by AF du Toit.[3]
It is immediately east of thePretoria CBD. The main thoroughfare is Park Street. Landmarks on Park Street areThe Pretoria Art Museum in itsMid-Century Modernist building,The Gerard Moerdyk Restaurant which serves traditionalcolonialAfrican fare in a house built in 1920 by this famousarchitect, as well asLoftus Versfeld Stadium where local and internationalrugby andsoccer matches are played.
The EcoleMiriam Makeba, a campus of theLycée Jules Verne French international school, is in Arcadia.[4] TheUniversity of Pretoria is also near Arcadia.
