TheArafura shrikethrush (Colluricincla megarhyncha) is a species ofbird in the familyPachycephalidae.
This species was formerly considered a conspecific member of thelittle shrikethrush complex. Genetic investigations ofNew Guinea populations of the little shrikethrush indicated high levels of genetic divergence, suggesting it comprised more than one species.[2]
Currently, threesubspecies are recognized:[3]
It is found in New Guinea and Australia. Its naturalhabitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowlandforests and subtropical or tropical moistmontane forests.
During a study oftoxicity in birds, two specimens of this species were tested. One of these specimens contained traces ofbatrachotoxins (BTXs) similar to those found in the secretions of Central and South Americanpoison dart frogs.[4]
