There have beenArabs in Spain (Arabic:عرب إسبانيا;Spanish:Árabes en España) since the early 8th century when theUmayyad conquest of theIberian Peninsula created the state ofAl-Andalus. In modern times there areexpatriates from a range ofArab countries, particularlyMorocco,Algeria,Lebanon,Syria, thePalestinian Territories, andIraq; and also small groups fromEgypt,Tunisia,Libya,Jordan andSudan. As a result of theArab Spring (Libyan Civil War andSyrian Civil War), many have the status ofrefugees or illegal immigrants, trying to immigrate especially toFrance,Germany andSweden. The Arab population in Spain is estimated to be between 1,600,000 and 1,800,000.[1][2][3]
