Antonio Allegra (1905 – 1969) was anItalianorganist andlyricist. As one of the organists ofSt. Peter's Basilica at his time, he wrote the words toInno e Marcia Pontificale, which was adopted in 1949 as thenational anthem of theHoly See (Vatican City).[1] The music was byCharles Gounod.
