Anicotinic antagonist is a type ofanticholinergic drug that inhibits the action ofacetylcholine (ACh) atnicotinic acetylcholine receptors. These compounds are mainly used for peripheral muscle paralysis in surgery, the classical agent of this type beingtubocurarine,[1] but somecentrally acting compounds such asbupropion, mecamylamine, and18-methoxycoronaridine block nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain and have been proposed for treatingnicotine addiction.[medical citation needed]
