Anoop Menon (born 3 August 1976) is an Indian actor,director,screenwriter andlyricist. He worked in television before acting inMalayalam films and has acted in more than 75 films.
Menon won theKerala State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and also theFilmfare Award for his performance as the fictional movie star Ajayachandran inThirakkatha. He wrote the screenplay and dialogue for films such asPakal Nakshatrangal (2008),Cocktail (2010),Beautiful (2011),Trivandrum Lodge (2012), andHotel California (2013).[3] He turned as a director with his debut King fish malaylam movie in 2021. he directed film named Padma released in 2022.
Menon was born on 3 August 1976 inKozhikode to Gangadharan Nair and Indira Menon.[4] He grew up in Thiruvananthapuram. He studied atChrist Nagar School, Thiruvananthapuram.[5] He is a law graduate from theGovernment Law College, Thiruvananthapuram (1994-99), and was the first-rank holder fromKerala University.[6]
While pursuing education at college, he used to do compèring forKairali TV andSurya TV.[7] He met fellow filmmaker and screenplay writerShankar Ramakrishnan during this time. Both of them were under the tutelage of renowned Malayalam movie directorRanjith.
Menon married Shema Alexander on 27 December 2014. This is Shema's second marriage. Her first husband died of a heart attack in 2006. She has a daughter born in 2002.[2][8][9] ActressShwetha Menon is his cousin.[10]
He began his acting career in Malayalamtelevision serials. He was in two series onAsianet calledSwapnam andMegham, the former one directed byK. K. Rajeev. Anoop made his debut as a screenwriter inPakal Nakshatrangal withMohanlal playing father and Anoop playing his son.[11]
He also played main character inThirakkatha byRanjith, portraying different stages in the life of film star Ajay Chandran, loosely based on the personal life ofKamal Haasan. His co-stars werePriyamani andPrithviraj Sukumaran.[12]
