Ann Li (Chinese:李吉妮[2]; born June 26, 2000) is an Americantennis player. She has a career-high singlesWTA singles ranking of world No. 33 and a doubles ranking of No. 149, both achieved on 27 October 2025.[3] Li has won two singles titles on theWTA Tour and three titles on theITF Women's Circuit.

Li was a finalist at the2017 Wimbledon girls' singles final.

Li was born into a sports family. Her father, who played soccer in college, is fromChangchun, while her mother, who ran track in college, is fromSuzhou.[2][1] Her aunt[who?] was a professionalspeed skater in China.[1]

Li reached her first junior major singles final in 2017 atWimbledon. In the first all-American girls' final since 1979, the unseeded Li lost to third seedClaire Liu, in three sets.[4][5] Two weeks later, Li won her first professional title on theITF Circuit, a $15k tournament in Evansville, Indiana.[6]

Li entered theLexington Challenger where she defeatedRenata Zarazúa,Julia Glushko, Anastasia Nefedova,Jessica Pegula, before losing toAsia Muhammad, in straight sets.

She participated at theLandisville Challenge where she defeated former British No. 1,Heather Watson, and Wimbledon finalist,Sabine Lisicki, but lost toMadison Brengle in the quarterfinals. In theITF Templeton Pro, she eliminated fellow wildcard Sophia Whittle but lost toSofya Zhuk. She tried to qualify for theUS Open but lost toMarie Bouzková. She then entered an ITF event in Texas where she lost toNaomi Broady. Her best result after the US Open was atStockton where she beatJovana Jakšić andLauren Davis, before yet again falling to Madison Brengle. InTempleton, she won againstNicole Gibbs before losing toHailey Baptiste.

2020: US Open third round, top 100

At theAustralian Open, Li played in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, after winning all of her qualifying matches.[7] She advanced to the second round, where she lost to the eventual champion,Sofia Kenin.[8]

Li reached a third round of a major for the first time in her career at theUS Open defeating 13th seedAlison Riske.[9][10] She reached the top 100 at world No. 97, on 9 November 2020.[11][12][3]

2021: First title, Australian third round

Li reached a third round of a Grand Slam championship for the second time at theAustralian Open. She then lost to seventh seedAryna Sabalenka.[13][14] She also reached the second round at the2021 French Open on her debut at this major.[15]

Li won her maiden WTA Tour title at theTenerife Ladies Open, defeatingCamila Osorio in the final, in straight sets.[16][17] With this title, her ranking rose into thetop 50 for the first time, reaching a new career-high of world No. 48, on 25 October 2021.[3] In November, she was nominated on the list for the "2021 WTA Newcomer of the Year".[18]

2022–2023: WTA 1000 third round

At the2022 Miami Open, Li reached the third round of a WTA 1000 for the first time defeating third seedAnett Kontaveit,[19][20] before losing to Alison Riske.[21]

She made the second round atWimbledon overcomingLucia Bronzetti[22] for her first win at this major. Li lost toMarie Bouzková.[23]

Li qualified for the2023 Cincinnati Open where she defeatedMagda Linette in the first round,[24] before losing to second seed Aryna Sabalenka.[25] She also made it through qualifying at theGuadalajara Open, but lost in the first round of the main draw toSloane Stephens.[26]

2024: First WTA 125 title, Mérida Open final

She qualified for her first WTA 500 since2022 Bad Homburg Open at theSan Diego Open, defeatingKayla Day in the last round of qualifying but lost to eventual runner-up,Marta Kostyuk, in the main draw.[27][28]

In June, Li won her firstWTA 125 title at theOpen Internacional de Valencia, defeating top seedViktoriya Tomova in the final.[29][30]

The following month, she reached the quarterfinals inPalermo with wins over third seedPeyton Stearns, where she saved a match point, andErika Andreeva,[31] before losing toIrina-Camelia Begu.[32]

At theMérida Open, she defeated eighth seedNuria Parrizas-Diaz,[33]Antonia Ružić[34]Jil Teichmann[35][36] andPolina Kudermetova[37] to reach the final, which she lost toZeynep Sönmez in straight sets.[38]

2025: Second WTA title, US Open fourth round

Li reached the final at theSingapore Open with wins overDaria Saville,[39] lucky loserMaria Timofeeva,[40] wildcard entrantKimberly Birrell[41] and top seedAnna Kalinskaya.[42] She lost the championship match to second seedElise Mertens, in straight sets.[43]

At theMadrid Open, she defeated qualifierAliaksandra Sasnovich[44] and 25th seedLeylah Fernandez[45] to make it into the third round, where she lost to fourth seedCoco Gauff.[46]

Li reached the quarterfinals at theMorocco Open, overcoming lucky loser Maria Timofeeva[47] andHailey Baptiste,[48] before losing to eventual championMaya Joint.[49]

At theFrench Open, she defeated qualifierMaría Lourdes Carlé[50] to set up a second round meeting with third seedJessica Pegula which she lost in straight sets.[51] Li also made the second round atWimbledon with a win overViktorija Golubic,[52] only to lose to 24th seed Elise Mertens.[53]

Seeded ninth at thePrague Open, successes against qualifierAstra Sharma[54] andLéolia Jeanjean[55] saw her reach the quarterfinals, at which point her run was ended by fifth seed and eventual championMarie Bouzková in three sets.[56]

In August atTennis in Cleveland, Li defeatedYuliia Starodubtseva,[57]Iva Jovic,[58]Elsa Jacquemot[59] and second seedXinyu Wang to make it through to the final,[60] which she lost to qualifierSorana Cîrstea.[61]

Li maintained her good form the following week at theUS Open where wins overRebecca Šramková,[62] 16th seedBelinda Bencic[63] and qualifierPriscilla Hon saw her reach the fourth round of a major for the first time,[64] before her run was ended by fourth seedJessica Pegula in straight sets.[65]

Seeded second at theGuangzhou Open in October, Li defeated lucky loserVictoria Jiménez Kasintseva,[66]Camila Osorio[67] andElisabetta Cocciaretto to make it through to the semifinals.[68] She then progressed to the final when her last four opponent, wildcard entrantZhang Shuai, retired during the first set of their match due to a hip injury.[69] In the championship match, Li defeated qualifierLulu Sun in straight sets to claim her second WTA title.[70] As a result, she reached a new career-high ranking of world No. 33 on 27 October 2025.[71]

Dubai was classified as a Premier 5 event from 2009 to 2011 before being succeeded by Doha for the 2012–2014 period.
