Androvax, also known asandrostenedione:human serum albumin conjugate, is animmunogen andvaccine againstandrostenedione that is used inveterinary medicine to increase theovulation rate and number oflambs born toewes.[1][2][3] It is aconjugate ofandrostenedione andhuman serum albumin.[1][3] The drug is marketed inNew Zealand.[1][3]
Androvax producesimmunity against androstenedione, and the generation ofantibodies against androstenedione decreases circulating levels of androstenedione.[1] In addition, since androstenedione is the majorprecursor ofestrogens, estrogen levels are decreased as well.[1] This is thought to result in reducednegative feedback on thehypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and increasedgonadotropinsecretion, which in turn improvesfertility andfecundity.[1]
