Andrew Jude Vasquez (born September 14, 1993) is an American professionalbaseballpitcher for theTecolotes de los Dos Laredos of theMexican League. He has previously played inMajor League Baseball (MLB) for theMinnesota Twins,Los Angeles Dodgers,Toronto Blue Jays,San Francisco Giants,Philadelphia Phillies, andDetroit Tigers. Vasquez playedcollege baseball for theUniversity of California, Santa Barbara andWestmont College. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 32nd round of the2015 MLB draft.

Early life and education

Vasquez attendedLos Osos High School inRancho Cucamonga, California. He was drafted by theKansas City Royals in the 44th round of the2011 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign and playedcollege baseball at theUniversity of California, Santa Barbara andWestmont College.[1]

Career

Minnesota Twins

Vasquez was drafted by theMinnesota Twins in the 32nd round of the2015 Major League Baseball Draft and signed.[1]He made his professional debut with theRookie-levelGulf Coast Twins, going 0–0 with a 2.92 ERA in 12 innings.[2]

Vasquez split the 2016 season between theLow–AElizabethton Twins and theSingle–ACedar Rapids Kernels. He accumulated a 3–0 record with a 1.41 ERA in 38 innings.[2] He split his 2017 season between Cedar Rapids and theHigh–AFort Myers Miracle, accumulating a 4–1 record with a 1.55 ERA in 57.1 innings.[2] He played for theSurprise Saguaros of theArizona Fall League during the 2017 offseason.[3]

Vasquez split his 2018 minor league season between Fort Myers, theDouble-AChattanooga Lookouts, and theTriple-ARochester Red Wings. He accumulated a 1–2 record with a 1.30 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 69.1 innings.[2]

Vasquez was called up to the majors for the first time on September 1, 2018.[4] In 5 major league innings, he went 1–0 with a 5.40 ERA.[2]

Vasquez was outrighted off the 40-man roster on July 4, 2019.He split the 2019 season between the Rookie-BallGulf Coast League Twins, Double-APensacola Blue Wahoos, and Triple-ARochester Red Wings. In 30 appearances, Vasquez went 2–3 with a 5.40 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.[5]

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Vasquez did not make an appearance during the 2020 season.

Vasquez was assigned to the Triple-ASt. Paul Saints to begin the 2021 season. He went 4–0 through 33 appearances while posting a 3.61 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 42.1 innings.[5]

Los Angeles Dodgers

On August 31, 2021, Vasquez was traded to theLos Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Stevie Berman.[6] He was added to the major league roster on September 2.[7] He only pitched1+23 innings for Los Angeles, appearing in two games. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out three batters in those games.[8]

He also pitched six innings for the Triple-AOklahoma City Dodgers and allowed two runs on six hits.[5] On November 30, Vasquez was non-tendered by the Dodgers, making him afree agent.[9]

Toronto Blue Jays

On March 15, 2022, Vasquez signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with theToronto Blue Jays.[10] He posted an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings of relief for the team before he was injured on June 8 with an ankle sprain. Upon his return, he was placed on the Jays' minor league team for rehab.

Philadelphia Phillies

ThePhiladelphia Phillies claimed Andrew Vasquez off of waivers on August 2, 2022.[11] He wasdesignated for assignment on August 15.

San Francisco Giants

On August 17, 2022, Vasquez was claimed off waivers by theSan Francisco Giants. He wasdesignated for assignment by the team on August 31, following the promotion ofAndrew Knapp.[12] Vasquez cleared waivers and was sent outright to the Triple–ASacramento River Cats on September 1.[13] In 14 games for Sacramento, he recorded a 5–0 record and 2.20 ERA with 23 strikeouts in16+13 innings pitched. On October 3, the Giants selected Vasquez's contract to the major league roster.[14]

Philadelphia Phillies (second stint)

On November 9, 2022, Vasquez was claimed off waivers by thePhiladelphia Phillies. In 2023, he made 30 appearances for Philadelphia, registering a 2.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts in39+23 innings pitched. Despite the strong results, he wasdesignated for assignment by the Phillies on August 2, 2023.[15]

Detroit Tigers

On August 4, 2023, Vasquez was claimed off waivers by theDetroit Tigers.[16] In 12 appearances for Detroit, he struggled to an 8.31 ERA with 9 strikeouts in8+23 innings of work. Following the season on November 6, Vasquez was removed from the 40–man roster and sent outright to the Triple–AToledo Mud Hens.[17][18] He elected minor league free agency the next day.[19]

On January 4, 2024, Vasquez re-signed with the Tigers on a minor league contract.[20] In 48 appearances for Toledo, he compiled a 7-3 record and 5.11 ERA with 63 strikeouts across68+23 innings pitched. Vasquez elected free agency following the season on November 4.[21]

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos

On February 22, 2025, Vasquez signed with theTecolotes de los Dos Laredos of theMexican League.[22]
