Andrew M. Butler

British academic

Andrew M. Butler (1950-) is a British academic who teaches film, media and cultural studies atCanterbury Christ Church University.[1] He is a former editor ofVector, the critical journal of theBritish Science Fiction Association, and was membership secretary of theScience Fiction Foundation. He is a formerArthur C. Clarke Award judge and is now a member of theSerendip Foundation which administers the award.

He has published widely onscience fiction and, less often, fantasy, in journals such asFoundation,Science Fiction Studies,Vector andThe Lion and the Unicorn. His interests includePhilip K. Dick,Terry Pratchett,Jeff Noon,Iain Banks,Ken MacLeod,Christopher Priest andPhilip Pullman. An article forScience Fiction Studies, "Thirteen ways of looking at the British Boom" won theSFRA Pioneer Award in 2004.[2]

Terry Pratchett: Guilty of Literature, co-edited withEdward James andFarah Mendlesohn was nominated for aHugo Award[3]
