Andrew Gerard (died 1767) was aScottish Episcopalminister who served as theBishop of Aberdeen from 1746 to 1767.
The son of Andrew Gerard, a mariner ofAberdeen,[1] he was educated atMarischal College, Aberdeen from 1699 to 1701.[1][2] He wasordained adeacon inEdinburgh in the 1710s and apriest in Aberdeen in 1725.[1] He served as achaplain at Balgowan until 1720 and then chaplain toLord Nairne from 1720 to 1728.[1][2] His next appointment was as acurate atSt John's, Aberdeen (1728–1733), where he assisted the ReverendGeorge Garden. Gerard eventually became theIncumbent of St John's, Aberdeen (1733–1767); a position which he kept until his death.[1] He married sometime before December 1731 to Mrs Burnett, widow of Robert Burnett (son of the Reverend John Burnett, Incumbent ofMonymusk).[1]
Following the resignation ofWilliam Dunbar in 1745, he was electedBishop of Aberdeen and wasconsecrated atCupar on 17 July 1746 by bishopsRobert White,John Alexander,William Falconer andJames Rait.[1][2]
Bishop Gerard died in office in Aberdeen on 7 October 1767, and was buried on 9 October 1767.[1][2]
