Andrey Alekseyevich Chernyshov (Russian: Андрей Алексеевич Чернышов; born 7 January 1968) is a Russian professionalfootball coach and formerplayer.[1] He is currently head coach ofSuper League Kerala clubThrissur Magic.
Acentre-back, Chernyshov played for numerous clubs in his homeland, including three Moscow-based clubsDynamo,Spartak andTorpedo, as well asRubin Kazan. He also represented various clubs abroad, such as Sturm Graz, DSV Leoben and BSV Bad Bleiberg in Austria, PAOK in Greece, SpVgg Greuther Fürth in Germany, as well as Royal Antwerp in Belgium.[2]
At international level, Chernyshov was a member of theSoviet Union national youth team that won the1990 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He also represented theCommonwealth of Independent States atUEFA Euro 1992.
Shortly after retiring from the game, Chernyshov became manager ofRussia at under-21 level in August 2002.[3] He also worked at numerous clubs, including stints atSpartak Moscow,Dinamo Tbilisi,Vitebsk,Dynamo Bryansk andAkzhayik. In July 2014, Chernyshov was appointeddirector of football atTorpedo Moscow.
In October 2015, Chernyshov became manager of Serbian clubSpartak Subotica.[4] He left the side at the end of the2016–17 season.[5]
On 12 May 2021, Chernyshov was appointed the new manager ofKolkata basedI-League clubMohammedan Sporting for their2021–22 season.[6][7][8] Under his guidance, Mohammedan began the2021 Durand Cup campaign,[9] and reached to the final, defeatingFC Bengaluru United 4–2.[10][11] On 3 October 2021, they lost the title winning match 1–0 toISL sideFC Goa and finished as runners-up.[12][13]
On 18 November, Chernyshov guided Mohammedan clinching their 12thCalcutta Football League title after forty long years, defeatingRailway FC 1–0.[14] Under his coaching andNikola Stojanović's captaincy, Mohammedan for the first time, ran for their maiden national league title in2021–22 I-League season, but finished as runners-up after a 2–1 defeat toGokulam Kerala at the end.[15] In December 2022, he was replaced by Spanish managerKibu Vicuña in midway of the 2022–23 I-League season.[16] He re-signed with Mohammedan on 29 August 2023.[17] He led Mohammedan scripting history, won their maidenI-League title in2023–24 season, which helped them securing promotion to theIndian Super League.[18][19]
In August 2023, Chernyshov was appointed head coach ofSuper League Kerala clubThrissur Magic.[20]
