TheAnaheim Piranhas were a professionalarena football team that played in theArena Football League from1994 to1997. They played their home games atArrowhead Pond inAnaheim, California. The team was originally known as theLas Vegas Sting, prior to moving to Anaheim in1996. The team was owned by future Arena Football League commissionerC. David Baker.
TheLas Vegas Sting was a team which competed in theArena Football League during the 1994 and 1995 seasons. Their home games in 1994 were played in theMGM Grand Garden Arena, and they were moved to theThomas & Mack Center on the campus of theUniversity of Nevada, Las Vegas for the 1995 season. The team was relocated toAnaheim, California prior to the start of the1996 season, at which time it was renamed the Anaheim Piranhas.
The Piranhas played their home games atArrowhead Pond, also the home of theMighty Ducks of Anaheim of theNational Hockey League. The team was not an overwhelmingly successful draw in the high-overheadSouthern California market and folded after the conclusion of the1997 season.[1] The arena (now known as theHonda Center) would once again be the home of an AFL franchise with the launching of theLos Angeles Kiss in 2014.
