Amy Taubin (/ˈtbɪn/;[1] born September 10, 1938) is an American author and film critic.[2] She is acontributing editor for two prominent film magazines, the BritishSight & Sound and the AmericanFilm Comment.[3] She has also written regularly for theSoHo Weekly News,The Village Voice,The Millennium Film Journal, andArtforum, and used to be curator of video and film at the non-profit experimental performance spaceThe Kitchen.[4][5]

Life and career

Taubin attendedSarah Lawrence College as an undergrad and received an MA fromNew York University. Taubin is also a filmmaker,curator, and educator.[4] She is one of the people visible inMichael Snow'sexperimental filmWavelength.[6]

Taubin has served on the board of trustees of theAnthology Film Archives; She was named as a Distinguished Art Historian-Teacher at the New YorkSchool of Visual Arts, Department of Humanities and Sciences; and has served on the selection committee for theFilm Society of Lincoln Center.[7][8][9]

In 2020, Taubin was awarded a writer grant, in the short-form writing category, by theWarhol Foundation. In her statement on receiving the prize, she said she planned to use the funds to survey the '"time machine of cinema available on our home screens."'[10]
