
Amos Kloner (Hebrew: עמוס קלונר; February 26, 1940 – March 16, 2019) was an Israeli archaeologist andprofessor emeritus.[1]
Amos Kloner taught in the Martin Szusz Department of the Land of Israel Studies atBar Ilan University inRamat Gan. His fields wereHellenistic,Roman andByzantine archaeology.[2]
One of Kloner's most important work was the research regarding underground cavities inJudaea, the research proved the connection between theBar Kokhba revolt and the fact that most cavities were used asBar Kokhba hiding complexes.[3] Kloner along withBoaz Zissu led theIsrael Antiquities Authority's excavations and research of theSecond Temple period of theNecropolis ofJerusalem.[4] One of the findings was theTalpiot Tomb in 1980.[5] In the 1990s, he was on the team that excavated theByzantine site ofBeit Guvrin.[6]
