Amanda Tori Meating is the stage name ofAmanda Philipps, an Americandrag performer, theatrical actor, and wig stylist who competed onseason 16 ofRuPaul's Drag Race.[1][3]
Amanda Philipps graduated from theStivers School for the Arts in 2014, and earned a degree inmusical theatre fromWright State University in 2018.[4]
Philipps portrayed Angel in the national tour ofKinky Boots, and was also cast in Human Race Theatre Company's production ofTorch Song Trilogy, Wright State's production ofAngels in America: Millennium Approaches, and Dayton Theatre Guild's production ofLost in Yonkers.[4] She is also a wig stylist, and has styled wigs for fellow queens such asKerri andSasha Colby.[5][1] Thegender euphoria experienced during her time spent as a part ofKinky Boots inspired her to start drag, and she began performing in theWest Village,Manhattan, in 2020.[1]
Philipps competed as Amanda Tori Meating onseason 16 ofRuPaul's Drag Race, which debuted on January 5, 2024.[5] Alongside the season premiere, she released her original song "My Kitty",[6] which she performed as part of the first episode'stalent show. She began watchingDrag Race at age 19, and was inspired by contestants such asWillam,Bob the Drag Queen,Bianca Del Rio,Adore Delano,Latrice Royale, andAlyssa Edwards.[1]
Philipps is originally fromDayton, Ohio.[7][1] She lives in New York City, and previously lived in Los Angeles during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[4][1] She came out as atrans woman in 2024, and previously identified asnon-binary.[2]
