Alphonso Carreker (born May 25, 1962) is an American former professionalfootball player who was adefensive end for seven seasons in theNational Football League (NFL) for theGreen Bay Packers andDenver Broncos.
Born and raised inColumbus, Ohio, Carreker attendedMarion-Franklin High School.[1] He playedcollege football for theFlorida State Seminoles,[2] where, as a senior, he was honored byFootball News as a third-teamAll-American.[3]
Carreker was selected by the Packers in the first round (12th overall) of the1984 NFL draft.[4] He spent five seasons with the Packers, starting 63 games, recording 18.5 sacks, 1 interception, and 3 fumble recoveries.[5]
Following the 1988 season, Carreker signed with the Broncos as a"Plan B" free agent.[6] He started all 16 games in 1989, recording 5.5 sacks.[5] He started inSuper Bowl XXIV for the Broncos, recording onesack and onetackle in a loss to theSan Francisco 49ers.[7]
Carreker retired after the1991 season, following a seven-year NFL career, having played in 94 games with 80 as a starter.[1][5]
